A chase reaching 100 mph at times and spanning multiple cities began when a Kaufman County Constable Precinct 2 deputy spotted a car with a fake paper license plate.

A high-speed chase that started when Texas authorities spotted a phone paper tag on a vehicle and spanned multiple cities Monday ended when a police K-9 cornered the driver on top of another car.

The wild pursuit, which was captured by a news helicopter, happened at about 1 p.m. near Forney when a Kaufman County Constable Precinct 2 deputy noticed a Mercedes with a fake paper license plate, KDFW-TV reports. The deputy tried to pull over the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop.

Police continued chasing the Mercedes as it traveled through Sunnyvale and Mesquite, reaching speeds of 100 mph at times. The car finally stopped in a Dallas neighborhood, and the driver fled on foot.

A Kaufman County deputy and a K-9 chased the suspect, who climbed onto the roof of a car parked in the street. The suspect then surrendered.

Fentanyl, marijuana and other drugs were recovered from inside the vehicle. No details were given about whether the car had been stolen.
